The Marion County Board of Commissioners is saddened by the tragic loss of St. Paul Volunteer Firefighter Austin Smith today, and our prayers and deepest condolences are with his wife, loved ones, and his community.

Yesterday, the Marion County Board of Commissioners met with Salem Mayor Chuck Bennett and other city officials to discuss ongoing efforts between the city and county to combat the ongoing crisis of homelessness among residents.

On Thursday night, January 20, the Gates City Council approved a variance in the city’s code, allowing for temporary housing to support residents of the Santiam Canyon who were displaced as a result of the Labor Day 2020 Wildfires.

With special grant funding, the Marion County Problem Gambling Prevention Program hosted a high school video contest to increase community and youth knowledge about the connections between problem gambling and substance misuse (alcohol and other drugs).

Today, the Marion, Washington, and Yamhill County Board of Commissioners jointly selected Jessica George to fill the current vacancy for State Representative in House District 25, left open by the resignation of former State Representative Bill Post.
